Fundraiser
"Father's Day Card Project"
The Water Filter Card Project is easy to implement by any parish or organization. Some suggested groups to promote this program are Evangelization Committees, CCD
teachers, Knights of Columbus, Peace and Justice groups and Lenten programs.
Even Baptismal Services have opportunities merging a couple of sentences on
“water” into the service. HEART supplies you with the printed cards,
bulletin inserts, church flyers and posters. With only a few meetings with
your committee we can help you launch off a simple fundraiser. HEART is also
always available through email, snail mail, and the telephone. Cost
$35 for one filter donation. To get more info, call 610-689-0808.

Mission
Trip Accompany HEART on a mission trip to Guatemala.
Pictured on left is Maria Tun, a Maya weaver at the Lake Atitlan
area, Marcelle Renkin, social worker from Australia, and
Michelle White, President of HEART. Maria's family was
donated a water filter after Hurricane Stan wiped out an entire
community of Maya families during the hurricane. Over 1000
villagers lost their lives. Come and see personally what HEART
for the Nations does, distribute water filters, meet the Maya,
experience a developing country. Nine days between $1400 - $1700.
Must be over 21 years old and able to travel independently.
Nicaragua
Brigade
Tour two filter factories in Nicaragua where Potters for
Peace is located. Brigades are two weeks long and take you throughout northern
Nicaragua close to the Honduran border. Meet potters in their homes and
studios. Purchase hand crafted pottery from the women. Live like a
Nicaraguan (almost). A hardy tour and not for the weak or people with major
illnesses. Must be able to travel by pick-up and endure life without
luxury. Roads are unpaved and extremely bumpy. Pillows and headrests are
suggested along with blue jeans and T-shirts. A very hot climate and January is
the coolest with temperatures in the 80 degree range. The country is 90%
Catholic and you can attend their services. Cost between $1500 to $2000/person
for 2 weeks.
Lenten
hunger bowl dinner.Host a Lenten dinner at your church and eat a
typical Latin American meal . . . mostly rice, beans, and soup. Each
person eats in a pottery bowl made by a Nicaraguan potter. Pick your own bowl
from a selection and take home as a memento. Charge for the dinner and proceeds
go to purchase water filters for the same potters who made your bowl. Cost $10 -
$12/person
Teen
Overnight Lock-In
Youth group leaders organize an overnight shut in where teens can stay
all night in your social hall. Kids eat, play music, dance, play board games, do
crafts, use your imagination. Sleeping bags suggested. Conclude in
the morning with a pancake breakfast. Parents' consent. Doors are locked at 7:00
pm. Parents pick up at 8:30 am. $10 - $12 per person.
