The Gallon Challenge People in the United States consume more water per person than anywhere else on the globe. On the average, we use 15 gallons of water per day. Half of the world population uses less than one gallon per day. So the challenge is to use only one gallon for a day.  Students/people sign up sponsors and then collect water.  In a school setting, students report their progress in class and do a statistical analysis of how each person consumed their gallon of water.   School Year Event

Father's Day Card Project The Water Filter Card Project is easy to implement by any parish or organization. Some suggested groups to promote this program are Evangelization Committees, CCD teachers, Knights of Columbus, Peace and Justice groups and Lenten programs.  HEART supplies you with the printed cards, bulletin inserts, church flyers and posters. With only a few meetings your committee can  launch off a simple fundraiser. Cost per card is $35 which supplies one filter to a father and his family. June Event

Wine into Water Time for a social . .  or even a social . . . "justice" . . .  event.  Each table of eight is sponsored by an event "hostess" who provides tea, china, silverware, glasses, table cloth, centerpiece, etc. Hostess sponsors table for $100 and receives eight tickets to the event for herself and seven friends.  Food committee prepares light fare such as veggies platter, soup, petit-four sandwiches, scones, cookies.  Hostess serves her guests.  Arrange for light piano music during the meal and a speaker from HEART to deliver a message on social justice and our person responsibilities to those who have less. HEART representative will ask for donations at the end of the speech. Fair trade coffee and tea can be served, and sold, during the event.  Door prizes can also add extra excitement to the event. Anytime Event - Great during the Winter!

Hunger Bowl Banquet This event teaches a social lesson about hunger. Host a simple meal during Lent.  Serve something very small (Hunger Bowl) such as rice and beans; this is what the poor really eat every day.  Charge $5 per person as the fundraiser.  Families can bring extra dishes if desired.  Around the outer edges of your social hall arrange tables with pottery items from Nicaragua for silent auction. People can go home with a piece of pottery made by the people who receive the water filters. During the meal have one of our representatives give a presentation on our water filter project and work in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Nigeria.  Meaningful fundraiser with good profit. Lent Event
