Heart Opportunities for Parish Evangelization

Jesus said in Mark 9:41: " 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tell you, he will most certainly not lose his reward.' " (References to water, both physical and spiritual, abound in scripture.)

Evangelization Ministry

Evangelization in the Church can happen in many ways.  If you are adventuresome and hear a call to become a "missionary" we have opportunities below called HEART Ambassadors. Another way to evangelize and live out your faith is to do corporal works of mercy.  By providing water filters to the poor in developing countries you are performing a corporal work of mercy.  Jesus said in Mark 9:41, " I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you (or another person) a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward."

The evangelization team members can sponsor events/fundraisers to raise funds for the purchase of water filters and health and hygiene educational materials.  We have several suggestions for fundraisers from very simple to more elaborate depending on the size of your team and responsiveness in your church community. Human Concerns Ministry

Water . . .  what is more necessary to sustain life? The Evangelization Mission and the Human Concerns Mission - the two are intricately entwined together.

It is becoming more evident that the world is shrinking and nations are becoming  more dependent on each other for survival.  Our needs depend on all nations working together to promote peace, dignity, human rights, and solidarity. God's people are required by Jesus to meet these needs.

Through HEART for the Nations, a family can help a family . . . a parish can help a parish. . . to meet the physical needs for water and beyond. The Human Concerns team members can sponsor events for the purchase of water filters and health and hygiene educational materials.  We have several suggestions from very simple to more elaborate depending on the size of your team and responsiveness in your church community. HEART Ambassadors                            

HEART for the Nations has an Ambassador program for people who would like to represent HEART at church and school functions.

HEART Ambassadors will be trained to give the HEART power point presentation at small groups such as Parish Councils, Youth Group meetings, CCD Confirmation Class, Social Justice Committees, Evangelization Committees, or even in High Schools in the local Pennsylvania area.  Ambassadors would be asked to give the power point at a minimum of two churches (or schools) per year. Ideally, Ambassadors would give five or more presentations per year.

Qualifications:

• Be comfortable speaking in front of groups of people

• Look and speak professionally

• Have skills similar to a teacher or marketing sales person 

• Have a desire and heart for helping the poor

• Have a moral character consistent with Christian beliefs

• Be available to speak at night and on weekends or during the week at schools

• Have a desire to learn new things

• For teaching science in schools, we look for retired teachers and require all the legal documentation and clearances as is required in any school setting.

Requirements:

• Attend training sessions:  total of five training sessions

• Visit a minimum of five parishes per year (e.g. a youth group, a CCD class, a school)

• Run a fundraiser at these parishes (included in the training)

• Make a two year commitment

• Obtain all the legal documentation and clearances as is required in any school setting.

                 

Goals for representing HEART:

• Minister and evangelize to our global neighbors.

• Promote peace and justice in the world.

• Educate people about the poor in developing countries

• Connect parishes in the United States to parishes in foreign locations. To reach this goal we expect a period of a few years to precede developing this sort of relationship in a foreign country. We can make such connections in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Nigeria at this time. Nigeria is the second neediest country in Africa for clean water and they have more than one hundred Catholic parishes.  We have established connections in Nigeria with the Catholic Church, Rotaries, and a University which has built a water filter factory.
