The red/maroon dots on the map to the left represent those countries/locations in the world who are in dire need for potable water.

Child mortality under age five is 1/10 live births, mostly because of the need for potable water.

HOPE: This is the way HEART lives out its mission. We ask you to consider living out God's call to us as true followers of Christ.

There are numerous opportunities for a parish to become involved with HEART for the Nations.  Whether  on a small scale (one event) to full parish involvement (becoming a sister parish) we welcome you to learn about all of our outreach programs to developing countries.

CCD PROGRAMS

HEART for the Nations works with CCD teachers in the same way as we do with youth groups. The Director of Religious Education can decide which class or classes our program will enhance in Catholic formation. We believe that our program can be very successful as a service project for the Confirmation class.

The goals of our program are the same as those listed above. The presentation can be customized by grade level and length of time.  Call 610-689-0808 and ask for John White

Jesus said in Mark 9:41: " 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tell you, he will most certainly not lose his reward.' "

YOUTH GROUPS

HEART for the Nations visits Youth Groups in the South East Pennsylvania area.  Our presentation at the meeting is done through a power point presentation which illustrates how the poor live in developing countries.  Along with presenting a realistic look at poverty, we also teach them about the need for drinking water and the simple ceramic water filter as a solution. The presentation can be customized by grade level and length of time.  The goals of our presentation are:

  • to teach the students about poverty

  • to illicit awareness of the material wealth they possess by living in the United States of America

  • to help students appreciate what they have

  • to generate compassion for the poor and move them to action

  • to develop the desire to help the poor . . . through water filters

  • to organize an event to raise funds for the water filters

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS      >  more on science

In Junior and Senior High Schools we have programs about the environment, pollution, drinking water and ceramic water filtration. Through a power point presentation we teach about the poverty which exists in the third world, the need for drinking water and the solutions found in simple water filters. You may invite us to come into your class as a guest speaker for as short as one day or a few days, depending on the degree of depth in which you would like the students to learn. Programs can include lectures, experiments, worksheets, research, and follow up studies. Through this program your students will gain an understanding of the global water crisis and an appreciation for the life they have in the U.S.

Our goals in presenting the program are the same as above for youth groups.

Additionally we have these science lesson goals:

  • to teach about the environment and water pollution in surface waters

  • to teach the science of ceramic water filtration

  • to inspire and guide students to pursue a career in the environmental sciences and engineering
